Welcome to my diving spearfishing and underwater hunting Blog!!

Catalina Island -daytime bug- Sand Dollar -
Yep that's me!
Did not bring a bag, was escorting/helping  a class at the Istmus and this guy walks out to say hi!

The class got an impromptu lesson in the art of the daytime bug grab. They were stoked! The instructor wasn't though, this happen on the first part of the dive tour, I was worthless after I grab it. Had to hold onto the bug, for the rest of the dive! The class was kind of distracted -

This Blog is about one of my passions being under water -

Some will say I act like I am underwater all day long-

A little about my self , started free diving at the age of ten, have way over a thousand dives on scuba - am a specialist in zero visibility conditions - spent a year of my life diving in zero- I mean zero visibility golf ponds, talk about hard work! Certified Assistant instructor, Collect vintage dive knives and spearguns.

I like to shoot fish-

Hate the term spearo, think it is gay!

I use old school Scuba Pro Jet Fins -
Love the farmer john wetsuit all black -

Spearfishing to me evolved here on the west Coast of Sunny southern California. With guys Like My dad, Don Richards and Ron Merker  -
Used to hang out at the Aquatic Center (Clive Clussler used to do the dive reports) , the real deal dive shop - Divers hung out there - not that divers today aren't real divers, back in the 70's  diving was still a sport that catered more to the athlete, buoyancy control was done more with swimming than with a bc -

My back yard, as a kid, was full of abalone shells , stacks of them -
I took my first one on the backside of Catalina , Cat Harbor, was a green - ran out of breath - got the iron stuck ,-dad had to finish it off - but hey I got one!
Today they are a no take item south of San Francisco - someday maybe they will be open for take again maybe.

More to follow it is getting late.

Cheers

Dave
